Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides (Plinest™) – Regenerative Skin Rejuvenation Treatment in Jesmond,
Newcastle

What Are Polynucleotides, and What Is Plinest™?

Polynucleotides-“salmon sperm facial” are long chains of nucleotides (the building blocks of DNA and RNA) that in aesthetic medicine act as bio-stimulators rather than volumisers. They are extracted from the gonads of Trout or Salmon.

They help promote cellular repair, collagen and elastin synthesis, hydration, and modulation of inflammation.

PlinestTM (by Mastelli, marketed via DermaFocus in the UK) is a brand of highly purified polynucleotides using PN-HPTTM (Polynucleotide High Purity Technology).  The purification process aims to maximise biocompatibility and safety.

PlinestTM comes in different formulations (e.g. Plinest, Plinest Eye, Plinest Hair, Newest) optimised for different areas or depths of treatment.

Course of Treatment / Protocol

Here’s a typical protocol (your specific protocol may vary depending on skin condition, area treated, and patient response.)
Initial “loading” phase
2 to 4 sessions
2–4 weeks apart (often ~3 weeks)
To “kick-start” regenerative processes and build a baseline improvement
Observation / consolidation

Allow time for collagen remodelling and effect development (often visible 4–8 weeks after start)
Maintenance phase
1 session every 6–12 months (often every 6-9 months)

Many clinicians find that 3 sessions spaced ~3 weeks apart form a good balance of efficacy and practicality.
It is important to be aware that full effects (collagen remodelling, structural improvement) may take 8–16 weeks or more to emerge.

Where They Are Used / Indications

Polynucleotides like PlinestTM are used to improve skin quality rather than to provide significant immediate volume. Typical applications include:

Face: overall skin texture, fine lines, crepiness, nasolabial and perioral areas

Under-eye / periorbital: dark circles, fine lines, lid lift / lower eyelid region

Neck & décolletage: improves laxity, texture, hydration in more delicate areas

Hands, inner arms, thighs, and other body areas with crepey skin or laxity

Scars & stretch marks: for skin regeneration and improved texture over time

Scalp / hair: Plinest™ formulations are used in the scalp to support hair health, hair density, increase hair growth and for pre and post hair transplant support.

Because polynucleotides act by stimulating tissue regeneration rather than filling, results tend to develop gradually.

Maintenance & Longevity

Downtime / Recovery

One of the advantages of polynucleotide treatments is their relatively low downtime. Typical recovery profile:

Side Effect

Duration

Management & Advice

Redness / erythema

Minutes to a few hours, occasionally up to 24 h

Use cool compresses; avoid heat & harsh skincare immediately after

Swelling (mild)

1–2 days

Cold compress, avoid heavy exertion, keep head elevated if significant

Bruising / petechiae

1–5 days (variable)

Gentle care, arnica, vitamin K cream, topical camouflage if needed

Tenderness or mild discomfort

24–48 hours

Analgesics (ibuprofen/acetaminophen as appropriate), gentle skincare

Minimal risk: infection, nodules, adverse reaction

Rare

In most patients, normal activities (non-strenuous) can be resumed the same day or the next day, and makeup may be applied after a few hours (if no open bleeding or skin sensitivity). We would advise avoiding heavy exercise, sauna, hot baths, or direct sun for 24–48 hours.

Overall, downtime is minimal and typically well tolerated.

What Patients Can Expect (Timeline of Results)

Immediately after treatment, the skin may look fresher, plumper (some hydrating effect), slight redness.

Over the next 2–4 weeks, regeneration begins, hydration and microtexture may improve.

By 8–12 weeks, more noticeable improvements in fine lines, firmness, tone, and skin quality tend to manifest.

Some improvements may continue beyond 3 months as collagen remodelling continues.

The peak effect may stabilize and gradually diminish over time, which is why maintenance is important.

Many patients show consistent improvements in fine lines, radiance, firmness after full courses of treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides (the “salmon sperm facial”) are natural DNA fragments derived from salmon or salmon trout gonads that act as powerful skin bio-stimulators.

Rather than filling or freezing lines, they encourage your skin’s own cells to repair, hydrate, and rebuild collagen and elastin.

This creates smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin over time.

What is Plinest?

Plinest® is a medical-grade polynucleotide injectable developed in Italy using PN-HPT® technology (High Purity Technology). It’s one of the most studied and trusted polynucleotide brands worldwide, known for its purity, safety, and regenerative results.

Plinest can be tailored for different areas of concern-face, eyes, neck, hands, or scalp.

How does it work?

Once injected into the skin, polynucleotides:

This process restores structure and vitality from within, giving long-lasting natural rejuvenation.

Which areas can be treated with Plinest?

Polynucleotides are extremely versatile and can safely treat:

How many sessions will I need?

For best results, a course of 3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart is usually recommended.

Results are progressive, and improvements continue to develop for several months after your final session.

Once you’ve completed your initial course, a maintenance treatment every 6–9 months helps to sustain and build on your results.

Is the treatment painful?

Discomfort is minimal. A topical numbing cream can be applied before your procedure, and the injections are performed using very fine needles. Most patients describe the treatment as a mild stinging or pressure sensation.

How long does a session take?

Depending on the treatment area, a Plinest session usually takes 30-45 minutes, including consultation, numbing, and the injections themselves.

What is the downtime?

Downtime is minimal. You may experience some redness, small bumps, or mild swelling at the injection sites- these typically settle within a few hours to 48 hours. Bruising is possible but uncommon. Most patients return to normal activities immediately or the next day.

When will I see results?

Some people notice a fresh, hydrated glow within days, but the real transformation develops gradually as your skin regenerates.

Expect to see visible improvements in texture, elasticity, and tone from 4-8 weeks, with continued improvement for several months.

How long do results last?

Results typically last 6-12 months, depending on your age, skin quality, and lifestyle. Maintenance treatments once or twice a year help prolong your results.

Can I combine Plinest with other treatments?

Yes. Plinest works beautifully alongside other regenerative and aesthetic treatments such as:

Your treatment plan can be tailored to your skin goals during consultation.
